Mindfulness.

Would you think of that word as coming from the world of neuroscience or Buddhism? As it turns out, scientists, doctors, teachers, philosophers, and others are beginning to understand the power of a mindful approach to learning while this concept has gone back for thousands of years in the spiritual realm, particularly in the Eastern philosophies.

Learning music and/or a musical instrument in a mindful way requires slowing down the process and focusing to engage the mind with intention and purpose, but without judgment. I work with musicians to intentionally engage the analytical, sensory, instinctive, and imaginative powers that they are all endowed with. It is my belief that a trusting bond, if created mutually by a musician and myself, becomes a vital element in the musician’s ultimate self- empowerment and ability to soar in performance.
